Anyone saying this is masterpiece is dumb and gay. They tried to do something different but atleast put a good story and satisfying ending. I kept watching it thinking something will happen in the end but nothing happenened.

The Dead Don't Die brought my wife and I closer together. Because it turned out we both wanted to walk out of the movie but didn't say anything. So, we learned and grew and now have an agreement to always tell each other when we think a movie sucks and we want to walk out of it. It's never happened before, and hasn't happened since though, because no movie we've seen has been as boring or pointless as The Dead Don't Die.

Nebraska. The single most frustrating thing about this film is Wake's inconsistency. He attempts to impose a series of rules and regulations on Howard, and then proceeds to break those rules. Then he establishes himself as the alpha male, only to waiver and show signs of weakness in front of his young charge. It doesn't work because there needs to be a lead character, otherwise we're left with two men going crazy on a tiny island, which is exactly what happens. Wake is a grizzled old character who has been around the block and seen everything, it's too much a stretch of the imagination that he would go crazy as well, he is long past the point where he would have developed coping mechanisms for his vocation, for the exact set of circumstances that occur in the film. This flaw continues throughout the film and to the very end. It's hard to fault the meticulous attention to period details but Wake's wishy-washy behavior and the story's subsequent descent into tiresome is-it-a-hallucination-or-isn't-it scenes waters down the whole affair. Dafoe is good, but much like Gary Oldman he sometimes times I expected him to start dancing around like Popeye and say "I eats me spinach...
I doubt anyone will see this, but thank you for recommending for One Cut of the Dead. I loved it, but probably would have never even heard of it were it not for this review.

He turn the pages so fast and abrupt you think if Winslow is actually understanding whats in the ledger or not. Winslow at the point may just be suspecting whatever devilish history involves Wake, and the past Wickies out of his own imagination. Real or not, he's so completely lost his mind.

They used a lighthouse nearby at Cape Forchu, although only the location and not the lighthouse itself which looks too modern. They did many interiors at a hanger at our local airport. I just don't get this scene. You know, one of the major flaws from the gate about this trilogy for me was that in The Force Awakens. Rey really wasn't the main character. I mean yes, they said she was. But where does the movie start? With Poe and Finn. What's the first emotional scene? Finn being traumatized by battle. What's the first real conflict of the movie? Finn deciding he needs to escape the First Order, betraying everything he knew. What's the recurring plot arc through the movie? If Finn is going to be brave or not. He's a traumatized figure struggling to see if he'll do what is right, but dangerous, or if he'll run and hide again. Rey really doesn't do anything Main character-y until she picks up a light saber at the end of the movie, and Finn is taken out. Considering what we know about the production, I don't think that was intentional. I mean there is a story structure where you fake out a main character like that. You build it up so X is the hero. and then kill them off and go forward showing how a 'lesser' replacement struggles to fill boots that they never were intended to wear. Except the marketing and hype all said that wasn't the case. They built it up as Rey being the main character, period. It's why I think so much of the trilogy ends up coming off poorly. Abrams has many flaws. Not understanding how space works is one of them of course. But deeper than that. I start to wonder if he ever really studied writing and the craft of storytelling, like at all. He just doesn't seem to have a natural grasp of it. This isn't bad in and of itself. Plenty of Directors seem to lack that, but focus instead on other bits like cinematography, etc. Except he seems to think he's not great, but competent as a storyteller. And. just the inability to recognize who the main character is in their own story kind of tells me he isn't. Of course I get WHY he'd think Rey is the main character. Because Rey was the Luke Expy. Poor on a backwater desert world, wearing white, had some vague connection to the Jedi not defined at that time. It has all the superficial elements to her being Luke. but it's missing the conflict. Whiny as the lines sounded, the very real world I want to get off this farm and No Son, I need you around for another season kind of bit. The grumbling about how he hates where he is while he's cleaning the droids. The lusting after Princess Leia hologram and how that spurs him onto action. The run in with Obi-Wan and the awe of hearing about the Jedi. The homestead getting torched and showing he had nothing to go back to. Training with Ben. Princess Leia Rescue. Shooting down TIE fighters. The assault on the Death Star. Every step of the way it's about Luke, what Luke is up to, how Luke feels about things, and how things impact Luke. Rey. doesn't have that. Until quite literally the last 10 minutes when she picks up a light saber and goes at Kylo Ren. It's that sort of thing that plagues the start and end of the trilogy. Abrams is good at superficially calling out to the original trilogy. but he completely missed the context and narrative weight. It leaves it hollow at best, and terribly confused at worst.
Beautiful song from these guys. I watched this with my social worker that i got cz of suicide risk but after this movie i'm even more risked tbh.
